Direct cremation is a relatively new concept and is a lower-cost funeral option.
A direct cremation is where your body is taken into care and then to the crematorium without any ceremony. This is cheaper than a traditional cremation. Following a direct cremation, your ashes are returned to your loved ones who can then hold a memorial or placement service at one of our barrows.

Direct cremation is significantly more affordable than a traditional cremation or burial, making it a cost-effective choice for those seeking a minimalist end-of-life option. According to the SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2023, a direct cremation is over £3,000 cheaper than a burial.

What should I know?
At the crematorium, attended services are not available, and the opportunity to view the deceased after they are in the care of the funeral director is not typically offered. The timing of the cremation is determined jointly by the funeral director and the crematorium, with their guidance. There is no selection of coffins or the option to accompany the coffin to the crematorium.
